The SAT Subject Tests
Most competitive colleges require at least three SAT Subject Tests (formerly known as the SAT IIs) as part of a student's application. These can be taken during any of the regular SAT test dates (except the March test date) and up to three tests can be taken on a single test date. Most students wait until spring of their junior year or fall of their senior year to take the tests, however, if a student is going to discontinue study in a particular subject area, it is advisable to take a particular test soon after completing the course when the content is still fresh. US History, World History, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are good examples of the latter. The SAT Subject Tests are much more content-based than the SAT Reasoning Test, which is largely analytical.
